Jaguar Center Cap Size — 59 mm OD, 50 mm Clip ID
Jaguar's published cap spec is a good lesson in why we print two numbers whenever a source gives us two. The caps for the S-Type, X-Type, XF, XJ and XK measure 59 mm across the face — but the retention clips span just 50 mm. Nine millimetres of difference between the number that looks right and the number that fits.
The part numbers
The family is documented under OEM numbers C2D9611, C2C30081, C2D12326 and C2Z4438 — a cluster of supersessions and variants typical of a part that lived across several models and years. If the number molded into the back of your cap matches any of these, you've identified the family before you've measured anything. If it doesn't match, don't force the conclusion: measure, and let the caliper arbitrate.
Why the clip ID runs the show here
On many caps the OD and clip ID are close enough that buyers get away with shopping by face diameter. Jaguar's 59/50 split punishes that habit. A cap bought on a "59 mm" listing whose clips actually span something else will either refuse to seat or seat loosely — and a loosely seated cap is just a cap you haven't lost yet. When you verify a Jaguar cap, start at the back: caliper across the tips of the two farthest opposing clips and look for 50 mm. Then confirm the 59 mm face.
Removal and refitting notes
Pull the old cap with a plastic trim tool, or a flathead wrapped in cloth if that's what's in the drawer — metal on a finished wheel face leaves evidence. On refitting, seat the cap with even palm pressure rather than a mallet; clips that need force are usually clips that are misaligned or the wrong size. And if a clip on your old cap is cracked, that cap is done — a Jaguar cap at speed is an expensive thing to watch in the rear-view mirror.
Four numbers, one family
Why does one cap carry four documented OEM numbers? Because long-lived parts get revised. C2D9611, C2C30081, C2D12326 and C2Z4438 span models and years, and along the way finishes change, suppliers change, and part numbers get superseded. For a buyer, the practical meaning is generous: any of the four numbers on your cap's back identifies this 59/50 family. The caution runs the other way — a supersession can also hide a running change, which is why the number gets you to the family and the caliper still gets the final word. Match the number, then confirm 59 across the face and 50 across the clips, in that order.
