Center Cap Sits Crooked — One Side Seated, One Side Proud

One edge flush, the opposite edge standing proud — a crooked cap is the wheel telling you the seat isn't even. The causes are few and each leaves a signature. Pop the cap (gently — trim tool) and inspect in this order.

The usual suspects

What not to do

Don't press harder on the proud side — that's how the good clips on the other side break, converting a diagnosis into a purchase. And don't accept "mostly seated": a crooked cap is an unseated cap with better PR, and it will leave at speed. If the cap is the documented part number, the diameters measure right, the clips are whole, the ring count is one and the seat is clean — it seats. When all five are true and it still tilts, the cap is a wrong-depth variant wearing the right diameter; order by the full part number instead.

Verify the fix: after reseating, run the tug test from the install routine — gentle pull at several points, no movement anywhere.
