What a Center Cap Should Cost — Dealer, Aftermarket and Marketplace, Honestly
Center caps are small parts with a wide price spread, and the spread is mostly about channel, not quality. Here is the honest picture, channel by channel, using the figures our research actually documents.
Dealer / OEM
The ceiling. Genuine caps ordered by part number fit exactly and match the factory finish — and dealer caps for GM trucks, as one documented example, are commonly cited at $35–$50 each. A set of four at dealer money is real money, and availability fades as models age out.
Aftermarket brands
Brands like Dorman reverse-engineer factory caps and sell them for less. On popular fitments the quality is genuinely good; on obscure ones it's uneven. The tell of a good aftermarket listing: it publishes real OD/ID dimensions and accepts returns. The tell of a bad one: it lists vehicle names and no numbers at all.
Marketplaces & specialists
eBay and specialist hubcap retailers carry new-old-stock and clean used factory caps — often the only source for 1990s–2000s wheels, and usually the lowest price for genuine parts. Where money gets wasted
- Buying a full set before test-fitting one cap.
- Paying dealer prices for a cap whose part number is plentiful used.
- Ordering by vehicle name and eating return shipping on a 1 mm miss.
