The Mazda Center Cap Argument — 56 mm Caps, a 64 mm Claim, and a 67.1 mm Bore

Set of four Mazda OEM center caps

Search Mazda center cap sizes and you will find a genuine argument. Three different numbers circulate for the same cars, they can't all be the cap, and the loudest listing isn't the right one. We publish conflicts openly on this site instead of quietly picking a winner, so here's the whole dispute, sourced, with our ruling and the reasoning behind it.

The claim: 64 mm

An aftermarket marketplace page advertises 64 mm caps for the Mazda 3, 6 and CX-5. It's a confident, specific claim — and we don't publish it as the fitment, because it collides with the part-number evidence below and sits suspiciously close to a completely different measurement on the same cars.

The evidence: ~56 mm caps, 57 mm clip ID, one part number

The OEM-documented cap for the Mazda 3/5/6, CX-7, CX-9, MX-5 and RX-8 (2009–2015) is part BBM2-37-190, with a clip ID of 2.25 in — 57 mm; the cap family itself is commonly listed at roughly 56 mm. A part number with published clip dimensions beats a marketplace headline, every time. This is the family we publish.

The third number: 67.1 mm, which is not a cap at all

Mazda 3/6/CX-5 wheels center on a 67.1 mm hub bore (5×114.3). That figure is real, documented, and completely unrelated to the cap — it describes how the wheel centers on the hub. Our read of the dispute: the 64 mm aftermarket claim appears to be a confused echo of bore-side numbers, the classic cap-versus-bore mix-up that causes more wrong orders than every other mistake combined. Once you've seen the pattern — a claimed "cap size" hovering near the car's bore spec — you'll spot it in other brands' listings too.

What to do with an argument like this

Don't take our side on faith; take the measurement. If your cap carries BBM2-37-190 or a sibling number, you're in the documented family. Caliper the clip tips and look for 57 mm. And if you ever find a sourced, part-number-backed document that contradicts what we've published, that's not a threat to this site — it's an update waiting to happen. Accuracy is the brand; being corrected by better evidence is the job.

See the conflict the way we do: the Cap Finder shows the Mazda entry with the dispute attached, and the How to Measure page gives you the clip-ID measurement that settles it on your own car.
